Description: Both sonatas are on the short side (16:40 and 14:12), come from the composer's U.S. period (1940 and 1943) and are bright and melodic with echoes of folk material. The second was originally for clarinet but, since Grechaninov wrote a clarinet version for No. 1, turnabout was fair play for the soloist here. Early Morning (1930) is a suite of ten pedagogical pieces for cello or violin while In modo antico (1918), in "in the Old Style" style, was originally for violin. Elena Artamonova (viola), Nicholas Walker (piano).
