Catalogue Number: 05Q004
Description: First heard 30 months ago (11P005) in concertos and sonatas which married Brahms with the New German School, this Jewish refugee to America here provides what is really "American Light Music" in his ten-movement, 36-minute suite from 1939: here is the music of New York in the period when Waghalter arrived: vaudeville, jazz, cabaret, film score, Broadway. His classical side is present in the two excerpts from his 1914 comic opera while the ten-minute Peace March was done in 1935 during a stay in Czechoslovakia on his odyssey from Poland and Germany to the U.S. New Russia State Symphony Orchestra; Alexander Walker.
