FRANZ XAVER RICHTER (1709-1789): Messa de Requiem, De profundis, Sinfonia con fuga in G Minor.
Catalogue Number: 05Q022
Reference: SU 4177-2
Description: The dark colors, minor key and big fugue in the 12-minute first movement mark out the symphony (probably from Richter's Mannheim years - the 1760s most likely) as a church work rather than a concert symphony. The Requiem is likely one of Richter's last compositions, muted timpani and trumpets adding to the funereal effect and both this 34-minute work and the 11-minute psalm setting of 1779 are examples of the composer's holding on to baroque polyphony while blending in elements of Mannheim Classicism. Lenka Cafourková Duricová (soprano), Markéta Cukrová (alto), Romain Champion (tenor), Jirí Miroslav Procházka (bass), Czech Ensemble Baroque Choir and Orchestra; Roman Válek.
