Description: Poor notes do nothing to explain why the Op. 17 quartets, published in Berlin in 1783, call for two violins, viola and "bass" (hence the harpsichord here, making them not really string quartets) and are in only three movements and are, while rather conservative in style, are plainly Classical nor when the other two quartets were written - these call for 2 violins, viola and "obligato cello" (meaning they're not really string quartets either but are stylistically similar to their companions). Mysterious and intriguing yet plainly of the Classical period and style. Via Nova Quartet, Eri Takeguchi (harpsichord).
