Description: Although Escales and the Divertissement are practically “greatest hits of the 20th century” by now, the remaining music on this 82-minute disc is rather more rare: the 13-minute suite Paris is based on incidental music for a 1930 play and its six sections which describe geographical locations in the City of Light with witty strokes of color while the equally-timed Ouverture de fête is one of those notorious commissions for European composers by the Japanese government in 1940 for the 2600th anniversary of its founding (its boisterous good humor rather at odds with reality). And these are just the two largest pieces... Orchestre de la Suisse Romande; Neeme Järvi.
