Description: The Serenate and the Sonatina, the works of a quite youthful Togni (1941-45) represent an anti-romantic move away from chromaticism towards serialism, and the Omaggio a Bach (1950) applies serial techniques to the well-known B-A-C-H motive several contrapuntal episodes. The later Tre fantasie scherzose of 1967, with their glimpses of Liszt, Scriabin and Rachmaninov, recall the nineteenth-century custom of paraphrases based on well-known themes.
