Description: Already in Raff’s early songs we find a composer who has an impressively wide range of creative means, which he applies with exuberant imagination – interwoven middle voices, vocal lines provided with extensive execution marks, unrestrained, partly virtuoso piano parts, coupled with a formal clarity. For the late Blumensprache of 1874, Raff chose the rare form of the through-composed song cycle – the individual songs of the cycle are linked by bridge passages for piano, so that a continuous whole is created. In comparison with previous songs, Raff’s tonal language here seems barren, less lush, but nevertheless intense and expressive, especially in the song Rosmarin [Rosemary], which concludes the cycle. 2 CDs. No texts. Marina Unruh (soprano), Frederike Schulten, Lisa Wedekind (mezzos), Wolfgang Klose (tenor), Johannes Wedekind (bass), Hedayet Jonas Djeddikar (piano).
