Description: These films (1934 and 1944) were not great successes but Alfvén's music has many felicities. The film subjects were love in pastoral locales and the composer once again used materia from his ballet-pantomime Bergakungen, adding Norwegian folk elements in Synnøve due to its setting. The two suites of six movments each last just over an hour and are full of expressive tone-painting, romantic mood-setting and folk-inspired pastoralism with a dash more drama and passion in A Country Tale. The 12-minute Elégie often anticipates Alfvén's Symphony No. 4. Norrköping Symphony Orchestra; Niklas Willén.
