Description: A snapshot of the richness and variety of 20th century folksong-inspired Norwegian music. Egge's 1944 concerto uses a form of the Grieg song as a starting point for a series of seven variations and a fugal finale. His Dream Ballad sonata (1933) uses the three best-known melodies associated with a 17th century Norwegian ballad tradition for a four-movement work which is a kind of Fantasy on those tunes. Three short folk-song or folk-song-like pieces make up the rest of the disc. Håvard Gimse (piano), Trondheim Soloists; Øyvind Gimse.
