Description: All new recordings never previously issued in any format. These were made in 1994 and 1996 and only the Arnold is otherwise available. Only Gipps and Vintner did not write their works for Dennis Brain (although Brain played the six-minute exercise in musical humor by Vinter several times in the last months of his life), Jacob, Arnold and Bowen concentrating on Brain's famed cantabile capabilities although not to the exclusion of more virtuosic fast sections, while Gipps (1969) pays particular attention to the horn's low register in a work written for her son. Vinter's 1942 depiction of an inebriated hunting party is brilliant and may demand an immediate replaying. David Pyatt (horn), London Philharmonic Orchestra; Nicholas Braithwaite.
