ALEXANDER TANSMAN (1897-1986): Musique for Clarinet and String Quartet, Triptyche for String Quartet, Musique à Six for Clarinet, String Quartet and Piano, 3 Pièces for Clarinet, Harp and String Quartet.
Catalogue Number: 06I090
Description: Another Naxos title unaccountably not released in the U.S., this offers very late Tansman: the clarinet works date from 1970, 1977 and 1982 (the Triptyque, also performed in a string orchestra variant, is from 1930 and has been recorded before). The ten minutes of Musique pass with a wistful Canzona, a spiky Scherzo and a brief, dreamy Notturno; Musique à Six is a six-movement piece in the spirit of the Mozartian divertimenti and the 3 Pièces occupy the same attractive, Gallic neo-classical territory as the other works on the disc with the clarinet used particularly to hint, here and there, at Polish folk music. Jean-Marc Fessard (clarinet), Eliane Reyes (piano), Francis Pierre (harp), Quatuor Elysée.
