Description: If you're a Hasse collector, you may remember the Requiem we offered on this label in 2006 (02H031); this was for the Elector of Saxony who died only six weeks after his predecessor, Frederick Augustus II. This Requiem, closer to Classical style than Baroque, is for the latter, whose hiring of Hasse in 1733 produced one of the finest careers of composition (mostly of opera) in the period, making Hasse so famous that the young Mozart hoped that he could one day be as well-known as Hasse. A 48-minute work using a full orchestra, this is predominantly bright and gentle in nature - as is the 1730 Miserere, originally written for the Ospedali in Venice where Hasse split his time with Dresden. Here we have Hasse's Dresden version, with mixed choir rather than the girls-only one which was available in Venice. Johanna Winkel, Marie Luise Werneburg (sopranos), Wiebke Lehmkuhl, Marlen Herzog (altos), Colin Balzer (tenor), Corenlius Uhle (bass), Dresden Chamber Choir, Dresden Baroque Orchestra;  Hans-Christoph Rademann.
