Description: Dating from 1788 to 1794, these are further examples of the quality of the composer whom Leopold Mozart said that it would be "fortunate for music if Pleyel in his time will be in the position to replace Haydn for us!". All but one are in three movements and have at least one memorable melody which you'll have trouble getting out of your head and Ben 448, the latest, is notable for quoting a Scottish folk-song in its slow movement: it was part of a batch of work Pleyel did for George Thomson, who commissioned him, Beethoven, Haydn, Kozeluch, Hummel and Weber to arrange Scottish and Welsh folk melodies for voice and piano trio. Trio 1790.
