Description: This four-act, 90 minute opera dates from 1901 and mixes Italian verismo with Chopin's actual music.  Orefice uses nocturnes, mazurkas, the Berceuse, a barcarolle and the Fantasy on Polish Airs in his own vivid orchestrations (often with a prominent solo piano part) to produce a wildly inaccurate set of snapshots from the composer's life (Christmas in Poland, a salon in Paris, vacation in Mallorca and final days in Paris). Deathless art it isn't but fun it most definitely is! 2 CDs. Italian-Polish libretto. Steven Harrison (tenor), Mariusz Godlewski (baritone), Ewa Vesin (soprano), Damian Konieczek (bass), Gracian Szymczak (piano), Chorus and Orchestra of the Wroclaw Opera; Ewa Michnik.
