Description: For collectors of "decadent" late Romanticism, the Krein violin sonata is right up your alley. Dating from 1913, it has the luxurious opulence and rarified ecstatic colors of Scriabin and early Szymanowski, rolling onward in an ever-increasing flow of now dreamy, now feverish emotions. The Poème of c.1920 is a good example of Krein's use of Jewish and other "Oriental" musical patterns while the brief Yakutian Themes of 1945 show once again how Socialist Realism can destroy brilliant talent. Feinberg's sonata is very late - 1960 - and is in a five-movement form which suggests a neo-baroque suite although the music is warmer than that with multiple themes and fragments appearing and reappearing across all five movements in an intricate way which unifies the compostion. Ilona Then-Bergh (violin), Michael Schäfer (piano).
