Description: The 1952 symphony is one of the cornerstones of wind ensemble repertoire and the jazzy Derivations (1955), written for Benny Goodman, is also well-known but the Saint Lawrence Suite is rare - a 1958 commission for the opening of the huge dam and power station on the St. Lawrence River whose four sections are "Dedication", "Quickstep", "Chansonette" and "Commemoration March". The Jericho Rhapsody, a little tone-picture equally rare, dates from 1941 and its 12-minute length comes with eight sub-sections which imply the Biblical sequence of events accomlished by Joshua. Stephanie Zelnick (clarinet), University of Kansas Wind Ensemble; Scott Weiss.
