Description: After this orchestra recorded the complete settings of this libretto by Galuppi and Cimarosa, its music director Andrea Marcon got together with some other people and decided that, since dozens of composers had set Metastasio's texts, it might be a bright idea to create a Frankenstein's monster: the complete opera recorded again but with the arias composed by 16 of those dozens poured into the libretto-mold. There are also two choruses and a duet but, many will be happy to hear, no recitatives of any kind. Not likely that you're going to hear each complete L'Olympiade by every one of these composers, is it? 2 CDs. Italian-English libretto. Romina Basso, Franziska Gottwald (mezzos), Karina Gauvin, Ruth Rosique (sopranos), Nicholas Phan (tenor), Nicholas Spanos (countertenor), Venice Baroque Orchestra; Markellos Chryssicos.
