Description: A fine account of late 19th century viola sonatas from the golden Brahmsian Fuchs, the Englishman Walker (hardly anything by him available... as a teacher, he had both Walton and Boult as students), whose sonata of 1897 does not exactly recall any of the "cutting-edge" British music of the period but which has its own spacious Romantic charm, and Juon's 1901 publication, the most ardently lyrical here, with his usual intriguing mixture of Slavic melodics and German treatment.
