Description: Mostly chronological, this first volume of the prolific Russian's piano music brings us Bagatelles and Études which were works of his teenage years, selected and compiled for publication in 1918 and 1920 respectively. The first sonata is also from 1918 and its major influences are Prokofiev and Russian Orthodox chant. The composer's personal nine-step scale technique first appears in the 1920-21 Inventions. The much later second sonata (1961) refers to a peculiar ringing in his ears which Tcherepnin experienced for more than two years and whose pitch distortion is represented with great emphasis on the whole-step interval. Giorgio Koukl (piano).
