Description: Like cpo recently (06L002 and 09M071), Querstand, committing themselves to an "Edition" of Raphael's music, employ German radio archives for most of their content in these first two volumes. But when your violist is Paul Doktor and your vocal soloist is Fritz Wunderlich, singing humorous literary nonsense by Christian Morgenstern, no one is going to complain! The 1930 quartet is bold and late Romantic, the 1925 viola sonata a little more taken with cutting-edge influences. It took Raphael a while to do the jazz thing - the sax concertino is from 1951.
