Description: Half of the eight items here come from Clifford’s Australian early period before he left for the Royal College of Music in London in 1933. While many of the titles look “light music”-ish, only the 1958 Cowes Suite and the Polka are actually in that genre. Voyage is a pastel-colored small tone poem from 1928 which has the feel of a pavane and the next year’s Dargo is a depiction of rugged Australian mountains in the vein of Bax and Sibelius. Hunted was an early Dirk Bogarde film from 1952 and has a quite dramatic score while Left of the Line was for a documentary of the Canadian landings on D-Day. BBC Concert Orchestra; Ronald Corp.
