Description: Plainly inspired by Beethoven’s Op. 20 septet, this septet, long thought to have been written around 1824, is now argued in the notes to have been composed sometime in the last half of the first decade of the 19th century. This is a sparkling and invigorating period-instrument performance, so this is not directly in competition with the 1988 Consortium Classicum version on Orfeo. And there’s the smaller-scale but equally delightful 23-minute trio from c.1818 as a bonus.
