Description: Written for Heifetz and premiered at the end of 1939, Walton’s concerto was recorded by the soloist in early 1941 by Eugene Goossens with the Cincinnati Symphony. The composer first heard his work via this recording and decided in 1943 to revise the orchestration. You will notice significantly more percussion in this original version and the notes delineate most of the rest of the less obvious of them. Lorraine McAslan (violin), BBC Concert Orchestra; Martin Yates.
