Description: These are attractive, engaging, tonal works. The composer alludes to the idea of 'mobile' in the sense of moving constructions made up of independent elements, and this and the title of the piano concerto, a collage of different times and of tempi, give a very good idea of what to expect from the music. In broad terms, Lohse's idiom is a kind of post-minimalism, but in a less strict sense than most 'minimalist' composers; he frequently evokes Baroque dances, Classical rondos and Romantic gestures and melodies to the point at which these allusions become more apparent than the strictly repetitive nature of the music. Collage de temps, with its separate 'mobile' musical objects -some of which sound more like gestures appropriated from, say, Schubert, than the usual motifs of minimalism, may recall Glass, or Nyman here and there, or more divergent post-minimalist romantics like Kats-Chernin (e.g. 05L116), and the presence of the harpsichord in the ensemble gives the work a very Baroque concerto grosso feel. 5 momenti mobile follows similar processes, with somewhat greater emphasis on melody and the exchanges between the elements of the unusual ensemble inventively used. 'Motionless Motion' is a melancholy work, more obsessive in its use of orbiting mobile 'cells' to create a feeling of unresolved tension. David Lau Magnussen (piano), Bjarke Mogensen, Claudio Jacomucci (accordions), Christina Åstrand, Toke Møldrup (cello), Danish Chamber Players; Casper Schreiber.
