Description: The quintet was originally Catoire’s String Quartet No. 2 before he added a second cello. It and the Andante (the only remaining movement of a quartet from 1886 which the composer destroyed, only saving this movement because Tchaikovsky had written a few words upon it) were only discovered a few years ago in the archives of the Glinka Museum in Moscow. The big work is the 30-minute trio from 1899-1902 which adds a dash of Wagner to its Russian and French stylistic elements. Catoire Ensemble.
