Description: The pianist says of the early 1930 sonata “The 1930 Sonata merits particular attention on account of its different language, extremely innovative and interesting. Due to the multilayered structure of the piano sound, the work is likely to take even the staunchest advocates of Bacewicz’s music by surprise. ” There are no other recordings of the first sonata (1949) available; this work includes the use of motifs derived from folk music, something reserved only for the Toccata finale of the 1953 Second.
