Description: This is the second disc of music by this successful composer of music for televsion (the first appeared in May, 2004). Ray imagines the Homestead Dances to take place around the turn of the 20th century in a one-room schoolhouse in Idaho: 52 minutes and nine dances (four of them waltzes following the various stages of life) will make you think of Don Gillis or, perhaps of an American Dvorák, while the suite contains six movements from a work which depicts characters and events in the life of Ray's grandparents, which allows for dashes of nostalgic Americana to be added to the lushly romantic portraits (the other seven portraits are on the first disc, along with Ray's Piano Concerto). Dublin Philharmonic Orchestra; Derek Gleeson.
