Description: A young Quebecois quartet brings us a brief history of Argentinian string quartet music, of interest to RI collectors for Gaito's 1924 work. The composer studied in Europe at the turn of the century and went home to try to create the foundation for an Argentinian national musical language like those he had heard in Europe. This work has several pentatonic themes meant to evoke the ancient Incas while the shifting meters and subtle harmonies are often redolent of Ravel and Debussy. Its 25 and a half minutes will be well worth the price of the disc for our typical collector! Quatuor Abysse.
