Description: Unlike the previous coupling of the late Chamber Symphonies Nos. 1 and 4 on this label, this late Chamber Symphony (1987) is coupled with the early Symphony No. 2 (1945-6) since it also is for string orchestra only. Lyrical and melancholic, the Second is not really a war symphony. The later work is more optimistic although the atmosphere darkens toward the end. Umeå Symphony Orchestra; Thord Svedlund.
