Description: Concertmaster of the Drury Lane Orchestra in London, Jones was plainly a virtuoso of the highest order. The violinist on this recording finds in these trio sonatas "the lightness and buoyancy of French dances, the serious intensity of Leclair at his most tragic, the improvisational melismas in the Italian style, the extravagant gestrues of Veracini (and) the wild harmonies of Purcell, Locke, and Lawes", while pointing out that the assimilation of all of these styles makes Jones possibly the most remarkable English composer of his period. Kreeta-Maria Kentala (violin), Lauri Pulakka (cello), Mitzi Meyerson (harpsichord).
