Description: This volume spreads its ethnic net wide, even though only the Babajanian and Weinberg works last longer than ten minutes: an Abkhazian/Georgian, a Georgian, an Azerbaijani, a Polish Jew, a Volga German a Russian born in Tblisi and an Armenian. Poltoratsky died of a heart attack at 36; the originality and depth of the two Preludes and Fugues we get here sure make us want to hear the other 22, a cycle begun at the age of 18! Equally fascinating are Babadjanian's Pictures from 1965 - folkloric music from the Caucasus expressed using twelve-tone methods. Remarkable!
