Label: Rondeau Production
Description: See our January 2009 catalogue for a full Klicka organ disc (01K052) and notes on his transmission of the Smetana tradition in Czech music. Here we have a 34-minute sonata only very recently rediscovered; Klicka's adherence to the Cecilian reforms (the Protestant version which modelled itself on Bach) shows in the third movement toccata and passacaglia finale while the second movement is a lovely, sun-drenched pastorale. The dark, oppressively beginning first movement serves to launch the entire work on a darkness-to-light path since the finale ends radiantly. Czech-German texts. Klaus Mertens (bass-baritone), Susanne Rohn (Sauer organ of the Erlöserkirche, Bad Homburg).
