Description: Most collectors of Jewish/Hebrew repertoire will know the clarinet quintet and Improvisation and Dance but this release offers the world premiere recording of the 1920-21 piano quartet, written in Munich when the composer was still Paul Frankenheimer. Rooted in Brahms, Richard Strauss, Reger and Fauré, it's a gorgeous example of late Germanic Romanticism. The rest of this disc is from Ben-Haim's residence in Palestine where he absorbed local elements which come through in modality, ornamentation and florid embellishment of the melodic line and a percussive syncopation.
