Description: Collectors of Jolivet will likely have the sonata and Danses, both classic examples of his primitive rhythmic dynamism and, in their slower sections, the evocation of a timeless past. But the remainder of the disc were first recordings at the time and are still not available elsewhere: Temps is a three-movement Jolivet take on the French propensity for neo-baroque suites except that his is atonal, freely adapting a Bach Invention in the first movement, a barcarolle in the second and tumultuous rondo finale. The other two pieces are sets of works for students, devised to deal with a limited number of difficulties and intricate and meticulous in design. Pascal Gallet (piano). 2005 release.
