Description: Here's a very pleasant surprise for collectors of late Romantic piano music: Blet's first two sonatas might as well be Scriabin's Sonatas Nos. 11 & 12 while the Third (the longest here at 14 minutes - even the 6-7 minute length of the other sonatas is Scriabinesque) moves on toward Rachmaninov while 4 and 5 have much of early Schoenberg and Berg to their still-tonal-but-pushing-the-boundaries quality. A dark, obsessive and oppressive atmosphere is present in almost all of these works, several of the shorter ones having quickly been adopted as mandatory pieces at French music schools and piano competitions. Evelina Borbei (piano). 2002 release.
