JÁNOS VÉGH (1845-1918): String Quartets in F, G Minor and in D.
Catalogue Number: 07Q053
Reference: HCD 32726
Description: Here's the best of the first batch of Hungarotons available in this country for a couple of years. Végh was an amateur musician, friend of Liszt and devotee of Wagner while being Justice of the Hungarian Supreme Court. These quartets (undated in the notes) are generally intimate in tone, possibly intended for gifted amateurs like himself but with progressive harmonies. As the reviewer in the May Gramophone put it "some distinctive and enjoyable music, very well presented."
