Description: There’s an orchestral rarity on this disc of otherwise guitar music: the 14-minute tone-poem “The Little Boy’s Kite” from 1932. Dedicated to the dancer Sergei Lifar, it employs a characteristically large orchestra in a depiction of a kid flying his kite on a windy day. A battle ensues when a bunch of bad boys show up with fighter kites and orchestral drama follows. Only two other recordings ever existed: the composer himself with the Symphony of the Air (reissued twenty years ago on Etcetera) and a Brazilian radio recording from 1965 on the MEC label. And we should point out that the recording of the guitar études uses the original manuscript of 1928; a number of cuts, additions and modifications occurred between then and its 1953 publication. Andrea Bissoli (guitar).
