GIOVANNI BATTISTA BASSANI (1647-50?-1716): Armonici Entusiasmi di Davide, Op. 9 - 11 Salmi concertati for 4 Voices, Violins and Strings.
Catalogue Number: 07R016
Reference: TC 650290
Description: After reading the ten-page note by the conductor and editor of this 1690 publication, you will beleive that Bassani is the least credited great composer of the Italian baroque. What we have here is the first in a long series of works for the 76 liturgical feasts in each calendar year. Bassani adopted the sonata da chiesa formation of two- or three-part choruses, two violins and continuo (with ripieno parts for both groups). Dance rhythms enliven much of this and he also uses counterpoint in ingenious ways not for show but always to support the effect of the texts. 2 CDs. Vocal and Instrumental Ensemble “Nova Ars Cantandi”; Giovanni Acciai.
