Description: Double bass fanciers will want to have the first recording of a 14-minute piece probably dating from Bottesini’s student days (between 1835 and 1839) which runs the expected course between lyricism and hyper-virtuosity. The 28-minute Gran Quintetto of 1858 is true chamber music with, if anyone, the first violinist having the soloistic opportunities.
