Description: Offered for the pianist’s transcription of Nuit de Tropiques which, as he points out, restores a portion cut from the only previous such work (by Gottschalk’s Brazilian contemporary Artur Napoleau); as to its technical demands, Mayer says that it “contains no over-dubbing to reproduce all the orchestral parts. Instead, I have tried to use the ‘three handed effect’ made famous by Thalberg in his opera transcriptions and later used subtly, but frequently, by Gottschalk”. Steven Mayer (piano).
