RICHARD FLURY (1896-1967): Skizzenmappe aus dem Bucheggberg - 50 Romantische Stücke, 5 Preludes, 2 Intermezzi, 2 Preludes.
Catalogue Number: 07R041
Description: This is actually the second recording of the fifty “Romantic Pieces” (1949) on the same label but since the first one predated our taking over at RI in mid-1997, we’re offering this new one anyway. Ranging from under a minute to 2:23, this is what the title says it is, a “Sketchbook of the Bucheggberg” region of the composer’s youth in Switzerland. So it’s a huge batch of miniature character pieces of life, flora, fauna and history of a beautiful part of Switzerland couched in conservative late Romantic style (with a few bits of Impressionism here and there). The Preludes and Intermezzi are from 1921 and 1931, mostly similarly conservative but with some of the influence of Flury’s teacher Joseph Marx. Margaret Singer (piano).
