Description: There are 48 Auber operas and 8 on this disc so there should be six volumes of these, right? We’ll see. This batch ranges from 1829 (the light and busy La Fiancée) to 1861 (the pert and satirical La Circassienne, set in Moscow and the Caucasus) and demonstrates the composer’s restrained art - no excesses but much fleet rhythm and agreeable melodies - which was a byword for good taste when he was in the prime of his career and when his overtures were as popular as those of Rossini and Suppé. Orchestre de Cannes; Wolfgang Dörner.
