Description: The Polish composers have in common that they all studied with Nadia Boulanger (but then, didn't everybody?), and that they dedicated their pieces to the violinist on this CD. Other than that, they present a wide diversity of styles, from Twardowski's catchy and very accessible suite of Jewish melodies and Rudziński's slightly to the modern side of neo-romantic sonata via Bauer's tough but largely tonality-based modernism, the piece beginning with a declamatory ostinato which becomes one of several themes in an energetic, motoric climax before it suddenly evaporates, to Borkowski's brand of Darmstadt-approved modernity, replete with a virtuosic gallery of extended techniques. Roman Lasocki (violin), Urszula Bożek-Musialska (piano).
