Description: Inspired by the AIDS Memorial Quilt, Corigliano’s 1989 symphony was an outpouring of grief and a commemoration of friends of the composer who died of the disease. Alternating loud, horrifying outbursts and moments of quiet tenderness and warmth, it had two recordings on major labels (RCA and Erato) which are now out of print. It’s coupled with one of Torke’s earlier exercises in rich, minimalist lyricism from 1985. National Orchestral Institute Philharmonic; David Alan Miller.
