Description: Known especially for his time as conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony in England, this Romanian musician wrote for the piano throughout his life, from early simple character pieces in the style of his teacher Mihail Jora to a sonata from 1940 with two movements of great complexity and originality. Romanian folksong and gypsy music also appear frequently. Another main event here is the recording of the 1897 Enescu concerto, the single surviving movement taking the Dies irae for a 12-minute trip through a Brahms/Rachmaninov late Romanticism. Luiza Borac (piano).
