Reference: HCD 11650-51
Description: Completed in 1862, this oratorio took as its subject the tragic Hungarian Princess who lost her husband, was ejected from her house by her mother-in-law, losing her children and who died in poverty. It is an effective expression of Liszt's lifelong humanitarian and philanthropic interests and we're fortunate to have this almost "historic" recording by the dean of Hungarian conductors reissued by Hungaroton. (There is another Hungaroton version of this work still in the catalogue which takes up three discs, conducted by Arpad Jóo.) 2 CDs. German-English texts. Éva Andor (soprano), Erzsébet Komlóssy (mezzo), Sándor Sólyom-Nagy (baritone), Kolos Kováts (bass), Slovak Philharmonic Choir, Bratislava Radio Children's Chorus, Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra; János Ferencsik. Original 1974 Hungaroton release.
