Description: The 50-minute cantata "Baldur's Dream" of 1856-7 (was originally intended as the first piece of a three-part work based on the famous theme from Norse mythology. The work was not a success, Danish audiences fearing Wagnerism was about to arrive (although you'd be hard-pressed to find much Wagnerian about it except for the mythological source material). "Spring's Message" (1858) is a spruce and attractive seven-minute hymn to the season in the tried and true manner of Spohr and Marschner. Danish-German texts (Baldur), German-English texts (Botschaft). Marianne Rørholm (soprano), Poul Elming (tenor), Per Høyer (baritone), Canzone Choir, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra; Frans Rasmussen.
