Description: Premiered in 1900, the concerto is a full-fledged member of the 19th century Romantic genus with an emotional range from inward lyricism to volcanic outbursts of passion. The solo part requires all the virtuosity audiences expect in this genre while the orchestra has a lot more to do than merely accompany (and the secondary school orchestra recorded here has a 61-year history of public performances). After a half-hour of drama, the six-minute Romance of 1901 offers a cantilena which builds to a brief passionate climax. The sonata was written at Campobello in 1911 (yes, that Campobello) and also requires virtuosity from its accompanist adding Polish folk elements in its second movement Intermezzo and a fugue in the finale. It was performed by such famous violinists as Enesco and Pawel Kochanski. Agnieszka Marucha (violin), Jean-Jacques Schmid (piano), Orchestra of the Elsner Secondary Music School in Warsaw; Piotr Wajrak.
