Description: Half of this disc is taken up by the Ligeti; all the pieces were transcribed with the supervision of the composer (these recordings were made the year before he died) and, at least in the Études, he was influenced by Conlon Nancarrow's player piano Studies and imagined some of his own studies as player-piano, "unperformable" (by humans) pieces. Stäbler's 20-minute work and Furukawa's 13-minute one (both finished in 1999) are, not surprisingly, inspired by Nancarrow. Bösendorfer and Fischer Grand Pianos with Ampico Player Piano Mechanisms.
