Description: Highly esteemed as a flutist, Kummer also began writing for the clarinet as it became more popular at the beginning of the Romantic period. But forget the opus numbers above: the oldest, most Romantic and technically demanding work here is the Op. 32 trio from 1864; the remainder are bright, attractive pieces in salon style with the Op. 45 Variations (1817) a very rewarding work for an instrument about to vanish from fashion about the time of this composition.
